EMDR Therapy
Hard Sh*t. We all got it. EMDR is a proven and effective technique used to reprocess experiences—especially those that are traumatic. Our entire team is trained, or is in process of being trained, by an EMDRIA approved trainer.
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a structured therapy that helps people process distressing memories and reduce their emotional impact. It can help you work through difficult experiences, shift negative beliefs, and feel more grounded and in control of your life.
What Can EMDR Help With?
EMDR is most widely recognized as a treatment for trauma and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). It may also help address: anxiety, depression, grief/loss, eating disorders, obsessive-complusive disorder (OCD), addiction and some forms of chronic pain.
Your therapist can help determine whether EMDR is appropriate for your needs.
How Does EMDR Work?
EMDR uses a technique called bilateral stimulation, which may involve guided eye movements, alternating sounds, or gentle tapping. While focusing on a distressing memory, you work with your therapist to process the experience in a safe, supportive environment.
Over time, the memory may become less upsetting, and negative beliefs such as “I am not safe” or “It was my fault” can begin to shift toward healthier, more balanced perspectives.
You don't have to talk through every detail of a traumatic experience for EMDR to be helpful.
What to Expect
EMDR follows an eight-phase process that includes understanding your history, building coping skills, processing memories, and reviewing progress. Your therapist will guide you through each step at a pace that feels manageable.
Sessions typically last 60–90 minutes. Some people benefit from a relatively short course of treatment, while others may need additional sessions depending on their experiences and goals.
Is EMDR Effective?
EMDR is a well-researched treatment for PTSD and is recommended by major health organizations, including the World Health Organization and the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. While we can't guarantee outcomes of therapy and some may find other therapies a better fit, many have found EMDR to be an effective treatment for many of the challenges that bring them to therapy.
